What Makes the Ultra Performance Window Film Offered by Sun Tint so Doggone Great?

~Ahhh, what a fine day to lay my furry body out in the sun but lemme answer your question first!~

First, here’s a super quick lesson in solar energy.  Energy from the sun can be broken down into 3 categories:  Infrared (IR) rays which are the longest;  Visible Light rays which fall in the middle;  and Ultraviolet (UV) Light rays which are shorter and fall at the opposite end of the spectrum. Longer waves (Infrared) can penetrate much more easily into all types of materials than those shorter wave lengths (Visible and UV). Therefore, the longer wavelength energy (Infrared) is responsible for more heat gain in our vehicles, homes and any interior space where the sun’s light has opportunity to reach.  The shortest wavelength energy (Ultraviolet) is responsible for causing skin cancer and for causing the actual deterioration of the materials our vehicles, homes, etc. are made of.

So, why does Ultra Performance (UP) Film work so well?  The Ultra Performance Film uses nano-ceramic, spectrally selective technology.  It is embedded with “nanoscopic” ceramic particles that are sized and spaced to reflect the longer infrared waves and the shorter ultraviolet waves while allowing the waves of visible light to pass through.  ~You might be thinking, “Sammy, how do they do that?”  And I have to say “woof, I just don’t know… maybe those sneaky cats came up with it…”~ Additionally, UP film wasn’t re-engineered from an existing residential window film but was designed specifically for an automotive application.

What does this mean for you?  Although Sun Tint carries this film in 4 different shades, UP film can be almost clear yet still keep out great amounts of heat while protecting you & your car from UV damage!  It’s really quite a feat of engineering.

I read about another tint company who did a little test to see just how well the UP film works.  They let a 2 door car sit out in the sun for 3 hours while the outside temperature was a pleasant 76 degrees Fahrenheit with a bottle of water left on the passenger seat.  They then took 4 temperatures:  the top of the steering wheel, center top of the dashboard, the black metal gear shift knob and the bottle of water.  In just 3 hours, these interior car temperatures were well in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  They then installed the UP 75% film (meaning it’s almost clear because it’s allowing 75% of the visible light to transmit through) on all side windows, rear windshield and front windshield. They then tested the car again under the same conditions and found the 4 temperatures to be an average of almost 10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler!

So, when your car has been sitting in the sun for 3 hours in Austin, Texas while it’s 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the interior feels like a brick oven, the steering wheel is too hot to touch and you can’t sit on your seats without scalding your legs, keep in mind that having window tint installed by Sun Tint really will help keep you cooler.  The UP film is newer technology film and if it’s in your budget, it’s our best heat rejecter by far.  However, we have 3 other types of film at lower price levels in our arsenal to help keep you from panting.
